Generally, the appendix is located in the first part of our colon and the lower right side of our abdomen. People who suffer from situs inversus can have their appendix at the lower left abdomen, but this is very rare.


Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix. And, this inflammation is often caused by unspecified reasons. Appendicitis causes rupture of the appendix which causes severe pain in the right lower abdomen which results in nausea or vomiting. Sometimes, tumors can also grow in the appendix and can be cancerous or benign. Anyway, it is a matter of great relief that this type of tumors is very rare.

To be very frank and open-spoken, anyone can suffer from appendicitis at any time but the most likely time is between the ages of 10 to 30. It is a somewhat prevalent disease all over the world. Infection and inflammation is the most common consequence of appendectomy. Redness, mild infection and pain are some notable consequences present at this time. Most of the time, antibiotics are prescribed to cure the symptoms and heal the operated area fast.

Usually, the appendix plays no role in adults and older children as after the removal of this organ, no change is seen at all. It does not create any long-term health issues. Some scientists believe that human appendix plays important roles in our body, but they also appreciate the fact that the removal of appendix causes no bad effects to the human body as well.
