Banging or Thumping
A loud banging or thumping noise may sound like an HVAC unit killer, but it’s a pretty simple problem.
If your AC is making a banging sound, odds are something broke off and is being tossed around the condenser unit. It could be a bolt that got knocked loose or a fan blade. While this banging can be annoying and even a little intimidating to hear, there’s a good chance it doesn’t pose any serious risk to your HVAC system.
That said, you still shouldn’t leave loose parts floating around your HVAC unchecked. So, you should contact an HVAC technician as soon as possible to fix the issue.

Buzzing
Bussing may seem like one of those noises your HVAC system should make. But, this sound could indicate some dangerous electrical issues inside your unit.
A buzzing noise could indicate an issue with the contactor relay switch or the condenser fan motor, which are both relatively easy fixes an HVAC technician will be able to help you sort out in no time.
However, that buzzing could also be a sign of a wiring issue inside the unit, which could be highly dangerous. Either way, if you hear a buzzing sound coming from your HVADC unit, turn off the system, shut off the power to the system, and contact a technician.

If it sounds like a monster took up residence inside your HVAC unit, you should turn off your system and contact a professional HVAC technician as soon as possible.
A Screeching noise coming from your HVAC could indicate a dangerous build-up of internal pressure in your system’s compressor.
If left unchecked, all of that extra pressure could destroy the compressor. So, if you hear any screeching coming from your HVAC, seek assistance immediately.
