Moving During the Pandemic: What You Need to Know to Stay Safe

Are you considering moving during the pandemic? It can be a difficult decision to make. On the one hand, you might want to avoid moving houses to negate any risk of you catching the virus. Some might say you are crazy.

But on the other hand, you might need to move due to your financial situation and you might be fed up with the impracticalities of living in a small space.

But if you do feel you have no choice then here are some steps you can take to protect yourself.

Have Everywhere Deep Cleaned

Have your new house deep cleaned before you move in and, as a courtesy, have your old house deep cleaned. This way any lingering virus particles will be destroyed.

Ensure you contract this out to a professional company that can make sure they carry out the job properly. They will know what chemicals they need to use to ensure they effectively kill the virus. They will also clean all the smaller corners that you might miss if you were to do it yourself.

If you are unsure about who to call to get this done be sure to ask your professional movers to recommend someone or to find out if they can arrange this for you.

Masks, Masks, Masks

Wearing a mask or surrounding yourself in the presence of mask wearers doesn’t stop you from getting COVID-19. But they can help slow the spread of Coronavirus as someone wearing a mask is unlikely to pass on the virus to as many people.

There is strong evidence that wearing a mask reduces the number of infectious particles an infected person releases when they spread the disease. The person contracting COVID-19 is, therefore, more likely to be asymptomatic and less likely to need a ventilator.

Insist that your house movers wear masks and you should wear them too as they move the furniture out of your house. If you can do without movers having to actually enter the house then attempt to move the furniture yourself.

Socially Distance

When your removal team does come to your house try to practice social distancing as much as you can.

This might seem impractical but you could always remove yourself from the house itself while they remove your furniture, choosing instead, for example, to stand on the street or in the garden.

Moving During the Pandemic: Be as Careful as You Can

If you are moving during the pandemic and you can’t avoid it then be sure to carry out some solid precautions to keep you and your family safe.

Wear a mask and insist your removal helpers also wear masks and only let them come in the house if necessary. Socially distance at all times and have the entire house deep cleaned before you move out and before you move into your new house.
