The Ultimate Guide to the Different Types of Luxury Plank Flooring

Your floors need an update, but hardwood floors can get costly, and tile floors can get cold underfoot, making them less than ideal for living rooms and bedrooms.

Have you ever considered luxury plank flooring?

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is much more stylish now than it used to be, and it can even mimic the look of wood and tile.

Here are some of the most popular options for LVP flooring.

Wood Look LVP

One reason LVP is so popular is that it can mimic the look of wood at a fraction of the cost of hardwood floors.

Luxury vinyl plank flooring can mimic the color and texture of various wood species, such as oak, maple, cherry, and more. It can even recreate the look of extremely expensive woods that would normally be out of budget.

High-end vinyl plank flooring has an embossed layer, which copies the feel and texture of real wood. You can even find different wood grain options on the market.

Wood-look LVP also comes in different colors, from yellows, reds, and browns to black and gray. That makes it easy to pair the color of your new flooring with your home’s style—from classic to contemporary.

There are many benefits to LVP flooring. It’s water-resistant, has a realistic look, and is super easy to keep clean. You can learn more about the benefits and check out your options at Dad’s LVP flooring

Stone Look LVP

There’s plank flooring, and also luxury vinyl tile (LVT). The two terms are often used together, but LVT comes in squares and rectangles and mimics the look of stone or tile.

While not quite as popular as LVP, LVT can look like marble, slate, sandstone, travertine, and more types of stone.

In recent years, LVT has increased in quality and can more closely copy the look and feel of tile and stone but at a much lower price point.

Rigid Core Vinyl Planks

A rigid core vinyl plank is another type of luxury plank flooring that you can break down into two groups: wood plastic composite (WPC) and stone polymer core (SPC). Both have a wear layer on top, a layer of foam or cork, and rigid core layers.

WPC has a wood composite layer, while SPC has a stone composite core layer.

The benefit of either WPC or SPC is that both are waterproof. LVP is only water-resistant.

SPC flooring is more rigid, but it’s also more resistant to scratches and dents. WPC is thicker and both softer and warmer underfoot.

Should You Install Luxury Plank Flooring?

Luxury plank flooring makes a great choice if you’re interested in a beautiful and budget-friendly choice. It can easily mimic the look of wood or tile but it’s much more affordable to install. There are also many benefits to choosing LVP, such as the fact it’s more durable and easier to maintain.

We think it’s one of the best flooring options out there, so you should definitely consider it.
