What Is Mass Airflow?

Some vehicles and aftermarket MAF sensors include a “cold” wire. This gets atmospheric data to help make even more accurate calculations. However, this is not typically necessary, especially on a minivan.

How Do You Know When You Have a Bad MAF Sensor?

There are many ways to tell if you have a bad MAF sensor. The most obvious is the check engine light. This will be set if the on-board diagnostics detect any fault with the MAF system. Therefore, it can be caused by other issues such as faulty wiring.

Symptoms of a bad sensor include the vehicle running rich (too much fuel) or lean (too little fuel). It is also common for vehicles to struggle with idling or acceleration when the sensor is malfunctioning. You may also notice that your Odyssey stalls right after starting.

These symptoms can also be caused by other problems. If you suspect a bad MAF sensor, it is best to check with a multimeter. Simply measure the voltage and frequency of the component parts of the sensor.
