Get Rid of Nasty Tartar at Home

Very few people enjoy going to the dentist. We all go because it is a necessary step to making sure our oral health is maintained. For many going to the dentist is a painful experience because they do not maintain an extensive and complete oral health routine. Many people do not brush twice a day and even fewer floss daily as suggested by most dentists. This is what could potentially make someone’s dentist visits so extremely unpleasant. Most of the appointment is spent scraping away at the tartar that has built up while they were neglecting their teeth and gums.

Oral Hygiene is Important

Poor dental hygiene will lead to tartar build-up. If this is not removed it will lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Once tooth decay has set in you can end up with cavities or even an abscess. These are both ideal places for bacteria to grow. This bacteria can lead to serious infections and has even lead to fatal infections of the brains of some.

The bacteria that lead to gum disease has also been proven to cause Dementia if that bacteria reaches the brain. Once this species of bacteria works its way into your bloodstream it will cause plaque build-up in your arteries. This will lead to you having the cardiovascular disease; which is the number one cause of death in the United States.

Oral Hygiene is also important to maintain fresh breath. If you do not take proper precautions to keep your teeth and tongues clean the bacteria that will grow will cause your breath to smell foul. Foul breath can be a sign of disease and you should always see a dentist if brushing your teeth does not alleviate the foul odor.

Remove Tartar at Home

Even the best of us get out of our routines from time to time. If you get behind on your oral care routine tartar can start to form on your teeth. If you catch it in the early stages you can remove it at home before it gets so bad that the dentist will need to remove it. If you keep your tartar in control at home when you go into the dentist for a cleaning they will be far less painful and much quicker.

The first thing you need to make sure you have to fight tartar at home is an electric toothbrush. The vibrations enable you to break up the tartar and remove it more easily. It is also good for messaging your gums and making sure to maintain good blood flow to your mouth. Make sure you are also using quality anti-cavity whitening toothpaste. Make sure that the toothpaste also helps to strengthen your enamel.

Several things around the house can be used to help with the removal of tartar. Baking Soda is a great example it is abrasive and will help to gently remove the tartar and any other build-up. Just add a little to your toothpaste and brush as you normally would the added abrasion will help to remove more tartar than brushing alone.  Sesame seeds can be used in the same manner and will give you the same result. A secret many don’t know is that eating spicy food can also help to fight plaque build-up. Spicy food increases your production of saliva this is your body’s natural defense against plaque.

Now you know exactly how to remove tartar from teeth without dentist visits. Dental visits are important but you can keep the tartar away in-between visits by using an electric toothbrush and the right toothpaste. This will give you peace of mind that your future dental appointments will be quick and painless.
